| Focused support embedded at first contact | ||
| When someone reaches out during a moment of crisis, it’s vital that they feel heard, supported, and protected and that every step is taken to ensure they are safe. That’s why, as part of our continued commitment to improving the response to domestic abuse, a specialist advisor has been embedded within our Force Control Room since February 2025 through the Raneem’s Law pilot. This pilot was introduced following the tragic deaths of Raneem Oudeh and her mother Khaola Saleem in 2018. It aims to ensure that victims receive timely safeguarding advice and are connected to support services as quickly as possible not just in the moment, but in the days and weeks that follow. The role builds on the existing Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) support already in place across the force. Officers continue to follow established procedures including risk assessments, safeguarding referrals, and protective measures. The presence of a specialist advisor in the control room offers an additional layer of support, helping ensure that every opportunity to safeguard and support is taken from the very first contact. Hear from the Senior Independent Domestic Violence Advisor Victoria Fawcett.
